Worker injured in explosion at Port Everglades, authorities say

Man, 52, burned in explosion while working on faulty valve of fuel tanker

PORT EVERGLADES, Fla. – A 52-year-old worker was injured Friday in an explosion at Port Everglades, Broward Sheriff's Office Department of Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Todd LeDuc said.

The worker was repairing a faulty valve on a fuel tanker when the container exploded about 11:30 a.m., LeDuc said.

The man was taken to Broward Health Medical Center with second-degree burns to his hands and feet. He also suffered lacerations to his face.

A Broward Sheriff's Office hazardous materials team inspected the site in case of any flammable gases and determined that none were present.

The state fire marshal was investigating the cause of the explosion.

The victim's identity was not immediately released.
