Sloppy Joe’s
1 pound ground beef
1 tablespoon butter, plus butter for toasting the bread
1 cup small diced onions
2 cloves garlic, minced
½ cup ketchup
½ cup water
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground chili
¾ teaspoon dried mustard
shot of Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon tomato paste
shot of tabasco
salt and pepper, to taste
For serving:
seeded potato rolls, or your favorite hamburger buns
Brown the ground beef in a large pot, breaking up the meat as you cook it. Strain the cooked meat, discarding any drained fat, add the meat back into pot. Add 1 tablespoon of butter and the onions, cook until soft. Add remaining ingredients. Bring the mixture to a boil, reduce and cover. Cook while simmering for about 20 minutes. Taste for seasoning and adjust if needed. To serve, toast your buns in a little butter, top with a generous amount of Sloppy Joe mix.
