A 92nd minute goal by Alessandro Noselli gave the New York Cosmos a 2-1 victory over the Fort Lauderdale Strikers in the NASL fall season opener.

The match, played in front of a sell-out crowd of 11,929 at James M. Shuart Stadium at Hofstra University, marked the Cosmos return to the league.

The Cosmos took the lead in the 44th minute with a goal by Peri Marosevic. Walter Restrepo equalized for the Strikers in the 73rd minute.

Richard Sanchez, who arrived on loan from FC Dallas last week, started for the Strikers.

The Strikers play their home opener against Minnesota United on August 10 at Lockhart Stadium.
