Louis Murphy falls asleep at wedding reception, wakes up locked inside Flagler Museum

Buccaneers receiver to 911 dispatcher: 'I got kind of drunk, and I fell asleep'

PALM BEACH, Fla. – Local 10 News has obtained the 911 call made by an NFL player who fell asleep during a wedding celebration and woke up locked inside a Palm Beach museum.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Louis Murphy was attending a wedding reception at the Flagler Museum over the Fourth of July weekend when he blacked out and woke up in the museum's garden.

"I honestly don't know where I'm at, but I'm at this wedding, and I'm stuck in the building," Murphy told a 911 dispatcher.

Murphy said he was locked inside the building and cut his hand when he smashed a window in an attempt to get out.

The former University of Florida player said his hand was bleeding, but he didn't need paramedics.

"I need to get out," he told the 911 dispatcher.

Murphy said he went out to the garden during the reception and fell asleep.

"Then I woke up and all the doors were locked," he said.

Murphy, who was a groomsman in the wedding, said his cellphone died, so he "basically kicked through one of the doors."

According to a Palm Beach police incident report, Murphy said he went out to the courtyard and fell asleep on the steps.

"When he woke up, everyone was gone and the doors were locked," Officer Dorian Pumalo wrote in the report.

Murphy said he got nervous and broke the glass on one of the doors in order to unlock it.

There was some friendly banter during Murphy's conversation with the dispatcher after he told her that he was a groomsman.

"How was the wedding? Good?" the dispatcher asked.

"The wedding was good, but now I'm kind of upset because I think they're all partying," he said.

Later, while the dispatcher was helping lead police to Murphy's location, the seventh-year NFL veteran seemed to express his disappointment about falling asleep during the festivities.

"Dang," Murphy said.

"OK, yeah, because it's already 1:15 in the morning, so I'm not sure what time the wedding party was over," the dispatcher said.

"Yeah, I got kind of drunk, and I fell asleep," he said.

Murphy played for the Gators from 2005-08, winning two national championships. He was a fourth-round draft pick of the Oakland Raiders in 2009. He also played for the Carolina Panthers and the New York Giants before joining the Buccaneers in 2014.

The museum's facilities manager was called to review the damage and estimated that it would cost about $1,000 to fix. Murphy agreed to pay for the damage.
