Hurricanes receiver Lawrence Cager out for season with knee injury

Sophomore expected to compete for starting job in fall

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami football team will be without one of its receivers for the 2016 season.

Team spokesman Tom Symonds said Friday that sophomore wide receiver Lawrence Cager will miss the entire season after suffering a right knee injury Thursday during an offseason workout.

Cager caught eight passes for 70 yards as a true freshman last season.

The Baltimore-area native started one game for the Hurricanes a season ago, and his lone touchdown catch was in a 59-21 loss to North Carolina.

Cager caught five passes for 58 yards in the spring game and was expected to compete for a starting job in the fall.
