Marlins earn 7-4 win after emotional Jose Fernandez tribute by Nationals

Nationals pitcher Gio Gonzalez got emotional Friday night as his team honored the memory of Marlins ace Jose Fernandez.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – One day after they buried ace Jose Fernandez in Miami the Marlins were able to scrape out a road win Friday night over the Nationals, 7-4.

Dee Gordon delivered the go-ahead run in the sixth inning on an infield single.

Christian Yelich tacked on a run in the 7th inning with a solo home run, the 21st homer of the season for Yelich.

Rain delayed the start of the game until 8:45pm.

And when the contest finally started the Nationals honored the memory of Fernandez by tipping their caps.

Nationals ace Gio Gonzalez, who attened Thursday's funeral in Miami, broke down and cried as he tipped his cap to the sky and then over to the Marlins who were lined up and standing in front of their dugout.  

The Nationals also had a Fernandez jersey hanging in their dugout.
