DAVIE, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins activated defensive tackle Earl Mitchell from injured reserve Thursday.

Mitchell was placed on injured reserve after he was hurt in the season opener at Seattle.

The seven-year veteran has started 16 games for the Dolphins since signing with Miami in 2014. He has amassed 56 tackles, two sacks and a pass deflection in 29 games with the team.

Mitchell began his NFL career with the Houston Texans, where he spent four seasons. He was a third-round draft pick from Arizona in 2010.

NFL rules allow for one player to be activated from injured reserve during the regular season, with some restrictions.
