The Hurricanes finished the season 9-4 with five straight wins.
Florida State and Florida both won their bowl games.
The Seminoles finished ranked No. 8 after a dramatic win over Michigan in the Orange Bowl, while the Gators beat Iowa in the Outback Bowl.
Clemson finished the season ranked No. 1 for the first time since the 1981 season.
Rounding out the top five are Alabama, Southern California, Washington and Oklahoma.
