MIAMI – Butch Davis has Florida International headed to a bowl in his first season at the helm of the program.

FIU (8-4) will take on the Temple Owls (6-6) in the Gasparilla Bowl in St. Petersburg. The game will be played Dec. 21 at Tropicana Field.

Under Davis, the Panthers tied a school record with eight wins. FIU also finished with a 5-3 record in Conference USA play, second behind Florida Atlantic in the East Division.

"Our guys have worked really hard this year, and I'm proud that we'll end this season in a bowl," Davis said. "We look forward to playing Temple. They've had a good season. It should be a great game in St. Pete."

The bowl game will be FIU's first since 2011.
