HIALEAH, Fla. – Seasons aren’t usually defined in April, but the Miami Marlins are off to their worst start in franchise history.

It’s the first time that the team has lost their first five games of the season.

All four of the Marlins starting pitchers combined for 16 runs allowed after losing in an opening series sweep to the Pittsburgh Pirates at loanDepot Park.

Their latest home defeat came after Los Angeles Angels star slugger Mike Trout hit a 473-foot home run in the sixth inning of their series opener against the Marlins on Monday night.

Trout drove a slider from Miami reliever George Soriano into the walkway high above the wall in left-center field. It was his second homer of the game after he also went deep with a blast in the fourth inning off Max Meyer.

It was the eventual Hall of Famer’s 26th multi-home run game of his career. The two homers also put Trout at 371 for his career, surpassing Gil Hodges for 81st on the all-time list.

The Marlins have been outscored 38-21 over the last five games.

They will now look to pick up their first win of the season as they host the Angels over the next two games.

The second game of that series is set for Tuesday at 6:40 p.m.
