Perez, 20, opened the season on the injured list, but testing revealed just mild right elbow inflammation and no structural damage.
Last year in his rookie season, which was ended after reports of joint inflammation in his right elbow, Pérez posted a 1.42 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP in 19 starts, striking out 108 batters in 91 1/3 frames, according to MLB.com.
He’ll join Sandy Alcantara, the winner of the 2022 National League Cy Young Award, who also had Tommy John surgery last October and will miss the 2024 season.
The Marlins are 0-7 and looking for their first win.
Miami will face the St. Louis Cardinals (3-4) in a three-game series beginning Thursday at 4:15 p.m.
