UM basketball player gets money back after being scammed by Miramar car dealership

Rodney Miller says he was sold vehicle that continuously backfired

MIRAMAR, Fla. ā€“ University of Miami basketball center Rodney Miller has received his money back after he was scammed by a car dealership in Miramar, his mother told Local 10 News on Wednesday.

Miller's mother said detectives were about to arrest the owner of One Auto Miami Export, Rudy Jimenez, on charges of grand larceny and fraud, but he decided to give Miller his money back to avoid going to jail.

Miller said he recently purchased a 2004 GMC Envoy from the dealership, but the car kept backfiring.

He said Jimenez claimed it was a simple fix.

"It came to the point (that) I pulled over, like, 20 times on the highway, so (it was) a really dangerous situation," Miller said.

Miller and his mother turned to Manny the Mechanic, who works right next door to the dealership.

"The transmission was not good," Manny said.

Miller said he took his car back to the dealership after having the vehicle for only a week.

"He told me he was going to give me another car," Miller said.

But Miller said there was never any proof that the second car existed.

He and his mother asked for a refund and were given a check that was returned for insufficient funds on two separate occasions, he said.

People who live in the area told Local 10 News that the business closed earlier this month, and upset customers have been knocking on the door of the dealership ever since, looking for answers.Ā
