Hurricanes drop out of top 4 in College Football Playoff poll

Miami meets Clemson in ACC Championship game Saturday

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – The Miami Hurricanes have dropped out of the top four in the penultimate College Football Playoff poll.

Miami was ranked No. 7 in the latest rankings released Tuesday night.

The Hurricanes (10-1, 7-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) were ranked No. 2 in last week's poll, but they fell out of the top four after a 24-14 loss at Pittsburgh in the final game of the regular season.

Despite the loss, Miami will have a shot at redemption against No. 1 Clemson (11-1, 7-1) in the ACC Championship game Saturday. The winner will almost assuredly clinch a spot in the playoff, while the loser will likely be left out.

No. 2 Auburn (10-2), No. 3 Oklahoma (11-1), No. 4 Wisconsin (12-0), No. 5 Alabama (11-1) and No. 6 Georgia (11-1) are all ahead of Miami.

Miami hasn't played for a national championship since a controversial 31-24 double-overtime loss to Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl during the 2002 season. The Hurricanes last won a national title in the 2001 season.

The top four teams in the final rankings will make the College Football Playoff.
