Malik Rosier to start against Wisconsin in Pinstripe Bowl

Embattled Hurricanes quarterback to lead team for final time

NEW YORK – Miami quarterback Malik Rosier will get the start against Wisconsin in Thursday's Pinstripe Bowl.

Hurricanes head coach Mark Richt made the announcement during a news conference Wednesday at Yankee Stadium.

"Malik Rosier is going to start for us," Richt said. "He has had really good practices. He has been working in that spot for the majority of the bowl practices."

Richt has juggled between Rosier and redshirt freshman N'Kosi Perry throughout the season, but Perry started the final two games -- both victories for the Hurricanes (7-5).

Perry's latest benching comes after the school newspaper reported that Perry posted a Snapchat video that "appears to show two nude people having sex." The post was later deleted.

Richt said Perry hasn't been suspended.

"He is available to play, as of right now," Richt said. "But we feel like Malik is the guy that's going to give us the best shot."

Miami faces the Badgers (7-5) in a rematch of last year's Orange Bowl, which Wisconsin won 34-24. It will be the final game of Rosier's career.

The redshirt senior has thrown for 1,007 yards and six touchdowns in six starts for the Hurricanes this season.

"I've got a lot of respect for Malik and how he has handled everything -- the ups and downs of his career and the decisions we've made as coaches that have affected his status," Richt said. "He has always come to show up for work with a good attitude. He has always been a great friend to his teammates, especially in the quarterback room. Now here is starting the last of his career for his team. I'm happy for him and I'm thankful that he has handled everything the way he has."

Perry has thrown for 1,089 yards and 13 touchdowns.
