Miami Hurricanes, Alabama to meet in Atlanta in 2021

Game would be rematch of 1993 Sugar Bowl that gave Crimson Tide national title

CORAL GABLES, Fla. ā€“ It's official. The Miami Hurricanes will meet Alabama in the 2021 season opener at the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

The 2021 Chick-fil-AĀ Kickoff Game will be the first meeting between the teams since the 1993 Sugar Bowl, when the Crimson Tide beat Miami 34-13 to win the national championship.

"We are excited to kick off the 2021 season against Alabama in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game," Miami head coach Mark Richt said in a statement. "Both teams have great tradition. We are looking forward to the battle."

Alabama is 5-0 under head coach Nick Saban in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game, including a 24-7 victory against Florida State in this year's game.

"We are pleased to have the opportunity to open another season in Atlanta for the 2021 Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game," Saban said. "Our team and our fans have always enjoyed playing in Atlanta and Mercedes-Benz Stadium in a fantastic competitive environment."

Alabama has won 11 national titles -- four under SabanĀ -- while Miami has won five between the major polls.
