FIU's home opener against Alcorn State won't be played in Miami

Game could be played elsewhere or postponed until Dec. 2

MIAMI ā€“ Florida International University football fans will have to wait a little longer for the home debut of new head coach Butch Davis.

FIU's home opener against Alcorn State, scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday at Riccardo Silva Stadium, won't be played in Miami this weekend because of Hurricane Irma.

The Panthers do not share an open date with Alcorn State (1-0). FIU hasn't said when the game will be made up, but it's possible the game could be relocated or played Dec. 2 at the conclusion of the regular season.

A potential conflict would be if the Panthers qualify for the Conference USA championship game, which is scheduled for Dec. 2.

FIU (0-1), which lost to Central Florida 61-17 last Thursday, will play at Indiana on Sept. 16.
