MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The Miami Dolphins are trading safety Minkah Fitzpatrick to the New York Jets in exchange for a seventh-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft that originally belonged to the Los Angeles Chargers, ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirmed Monday.
Fitzpatrick is expected to sign a three-year, $40 million contract with the Jets, his agent Drew Rosenhaus told ESPN.
The move comes shortly after Miami announced it would release quarterback Tua Tagovailoa at the start of the new league year.
Fitzpatrick had one year left on his $15.6 million (non-guaranteed) contract, and the Dolphins opted to move him, ultimately sending him to a division rival.
During the 2025 season, he recorded 82 tackles, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and an interception.
Fitzpatrick, who was selected by Miami in the first-round of the 2018 NFL Draft was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers a year later because of a dispute with then-coach Brian Flores.
In 2025, he was then traded back from Pittsburgh to Miami in exchange for cornerback Jalen Ramsey and tight end Jonnu Smith.
The five-time Pro Bowl selection and three-time first-team All-Pro has totaled 690 tackles, 21 interceptions and six forced fumbles across eight NFL seasons, including six with Pittsburgh.
