Google Maps can tell how crowded a restaurant or store is

MIAMI – Ever pull up to your favorite restaurant on an empty stomach, only to find a line out the door and the wait time over an hour?

The answer to the agony is now in the palm of your hand.

In Thursday's release, Google Maps has updated its features to offer users a real-time live look at a restaurant's wait time or whether a store is jam-packed on their smartphone.

Fortune reports that for a few years, the App showed how busy a location was by the hour, but those numbers were only culled from historical data. The updated version allows you to see the current wait.

The new live feature now gives users a heads up when the line at the movie theater is too long, or the wait at the supermarket checkout drags all the way back to the frozen foods section.

Saving your precious time.
