Scandals reveal Cuomo known by New Yorkers to wider nation

Kisco, N.Y. New Yorks attorney general has promised a thorough investigation of allegations that Cuomo sexually harassed at least two women. (AP Photo/Richard Drew, File)It was Andrew Cuomo’s Emmy-winning performance: daily televised coronavirus briefings in which the New York governor projected competence and compassion, helping to calm a nervous nation. To New Yorkers who have watched the Democrat for years, however, the allegations are consistent with how Cuomo maintains his tight grip on power. Assembly member Ron Kim, a Democrat who blasted Cuomo over those deaths, said Cuomo called and threatened to ā€œdestroyā€ him if he didn’t retract his criticism. AdWhile he started as a centrist, he’s since moved to the left — though many progressive lawmakers still view Cuomo with distrust.

Double standard? Gillibrand in spotlight after Cuomo scandal

Read full article: Double standard? Gillibrand in spotlight after Cuomo scandal

Gillibrand became the first Democratic senator to call for her colleague Al Frankens resignation amid multiple allegations of sexual misconduct in 2017. But Gillibrand and other top Democrats have stopped short of calling on New York's governor, Democrat Andrew Cuomo, to resign amid accusations of offensive behavior. Gillibrand paid a political price for her role in the Franken resignation and her tone toward Cuomo may reflect that. "They elected me.ā€A spokesman for Gillibrand declined to comment on whether the senator considered calling on Cuomo to resign. But Gillibrand has promoted herself as a feminist leader and champion of women's rights, and the Cuomo scandal concerns her state.

Andrew Cuomo as the face of governing competence as President Donald Trump fumbled his administration's response to the exploding pandemic last year. Both of New York's Democratic U.S. senators have publicly embraced the state attorney general's nascent investigation into Cuomo's behavior. While Democrats across the country are not rallying behind Cuomo, few are calling for him to step down.

Rush Limbaugh, voice of American conservatism, has died

Read full article: Rush Limbaugh, voice of American conservatism, has died

PALM BEACH, Fla. – Rush Limbaugh, the talk radio host who ripped into liberals and laid waste to political correctness with a gleeful malice that made him one of the most powerful voices in politics, influencing the rightward push of American conservatism and the rise of Donald Trump, died Wednesday. Unflinchingly conservative, wildly partisan, bombastically self-promoting and larger than life, Limbaugh galvanized listeners for more than 30 years with his talent for sarcastic, insult-laced commentary. ā€œWe’re supposed to be horrified by the protesters,ā€ Limbaugh told his listeners the next day after the Jan. 6 attack. AdRush Hudson Limbaugh III was born Jan. 12, 1951, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, to the former Mildred Armstrong, and Rush Limbaugh Jr., who flew fighter planes in World War II and practiced law at home. It was there in the early 1980s that Limbaugh really garnered an audience, broadcasting shows dripping with sarcasm and bravado.
