Skiers seek climate change moves: 'The seasons have shifted'
Overall World Cup winners Mikaela Shiffrin, Federica Brignone and Aleksander Aamodt Kilde are among nearly 200 athletes from multiple disciplines who have signed a letter addressed to the International Ski and Snowboard Federation demanding action over climate change.

It was the 19-year-old New Zealander’s third win in giant slalom on the World Cup circuit. Marta Bassino, who already secured the season-long giant slalom title, trailed by 1.45 in seventh. One day after being crowned the overall World Cup champion, Petra Vlhova ended her tiring season with an 11th-place finish.
Gut-Behrami wins again, edges Shiffrin in giant slalom

Gut-Behrami also won gold in the super-G and bronze in the downhill at this year's worlds. AdShiffrin dropped 0.14 seconds behind Gut-Behrami halfway through her final run but made up time in the flat final section.

In tough conditions due to fog and rain, the overall leader from Slovakia beat Katharina Liensberger of Austria by five-hundredths of a second. At a night race in Semmering last Tuesday, Michelle Gisin became the first skier other than Vlhova or Shiffrin to win a World Cup slalom in 29 races since January 2017, when Frida Hansdotter triumphed in Flachau. Vlhova and Gisin are 1-2 in both the slalom and the overall standings.

Petra Vlhova posted the fastest time, two years after the GS world champion from Slovakia won her first race in the discipline on the same Zauberberg course.

The Czech skier finished three hundredths ahead of Suter, the World Cup super-G champion from Switzerland who won a downhill on the same slope Friday. Brignone’s Italian teammate, Marta Bassino, was fourth, and overall World Cup leader Petra Vlhova finished sixth. The three-time overall champion was expected back in action at technical races in Semmering, Austria on Dec. 28-29.

Shiffrin protected her first-run lead in Monday's giant slalom and finished 0.82 seconds ahead of Federica Brignone. The American skier was at first subdued after crossing the line and seeing she had secured her 67th World Cup win. Shiffrin tied Marcel Hirscher for third on the all-time World Cup win list, trailing only Lindsey Vonn with 82 and Ingemar Stenmark with 86.

After finishing second in a super-G won by Nina Ortlieb of Austria on Saturday, Brignone leads the overall World Cup standings with 1,378 points. However, the timing of the American's return to the World Cup remains unknown as she takes a break from racing following the death of her father, Jeff Shiffrin, four weeks ago. Brignone could become the first Italian overall winner in the 53-year-history of the women's World Cup.
