Krome Avenue Truck Bypass goes into effect in City of Homestead
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has completed the Krome Avenue Truck Bypass and use of the bypass route is being enforced by local law enforcement. The much-anticipated Truck Bypass will remove heavy truck traffic from Homestead’s Historic Downtown District and contribute to an overall quieter and more pleasant pedestrian experience. The project limits extend from west of SR 997/Krome Avenue to east of SR 5/US1 along SW 312th Street/Campbell Drive, SW 336th Street/Davis Parkway and SR 9336/Palm Drive in the cities of Homestead and Florida City. The purpose of the project is to provide a truck bypass facility and redirect truck traffic from Krome Avenue to US 1. The Homestead Police Department was issuing warnings to truck traffic violating the bypass requirement, but beginning Wednesday, Nov. 24, trucks not utilizing the bypass were issued a uniform traffic citation.communitynewspapers.com

Fatal crash shuts down Turnpike in south Miami-Dade’s Princeton area
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A fatal crash caused traffic delays on Tuesday afternoon after shutting down the Florida Turnpike’s southbound lanes in Miami-Dade County’s Princeton area. A motorhome that was towing a Jeep, both with Texas license plates, crashed at the Turnpike’s Exit 9 ramp to Southwest 112th Avenue, also known as Allapattah Road. This car plummeted from an Interstate 95 overpass in Fort Lauderdale and landed on a grassy swale, killing two people. Overhead sign removal prompts emergency closure of Florida's Turnpike
MIAMI - A stretch of Florida's Turnpike was closed in both directions Wednesday morning in Miami. The turnpike was closed between the Southwest Eighth Street exit and the Dolphin Expressway because of emergency construction. Florida Department of Transportation workers were removing an overhead sign that spans both directions at Southwest Eighth Street. "It is currently unsafe to allow vehicles to travel under the sign structure," the FDOT said in a news release. The turnpike was closed for several hours before reopening shortly before 10:30 a.m.

SUV overturns on Sawgrass Expressway
CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – An SUV overturned on the Sawgrass Expressway westbound lanes in Coral Springs, according to the Florida Department of Transportation. Authorities blocked the two right lanes before Exit 18-A. SKY 10 was above the scene and saw Fire Rescue officials surrounding the vehicle. It's unclear whether anyone was injured.
