Kurt Watson will serve as the interim athletic director as the school searches for both an AD and football coach. ā€œWe will immediately begin our search for a new athletics director. ā€œBut we are making long-term decisions on an athletics director and a football coach, and we cannot sacrifice the quality of a search simply for expediency. ā€œI leave KU with a heavy heart and profound confidence that I have always acted in the best interests of Kansas Athletics,ā€ Long said in a statement Wednesday night. ā€œWe made strides in academics, fundraising, facilities and diversity and inclusion, among other areas, and I truly believe the best days of Kansas athletics lie ahead.ā€

LSU's former athletic director recommended in 2013 that Les Miles be fired as Tigers football coach because of his behavior with female student workers. The school and Miles agreed to a settlement late Monday, just days after he was placed on administrative leave amid sexual misconduct allegations from his tenure with the Tigers. Asked whether Miles lied to him, Long replied: ā€œThat's debatable whether that was a lie.ā€ā€œI can't really answer why Coach Miles responded the way he did,ā€ Long said. His missteps in hiring Miles came after an underwhelming hiring of Dave Wannstedt at Pittsburgh and his controversial hiring and firing of Bobby Petrino at Arkansas.

Then-Athletic Director Joe Alleva's recommendation to former LSU President F. King Alexander is detailed in a newly released report into how the university handled sexual misconduct complaints. AdEarlier in the day, LSU released a law firm's 148-page review of how the university has handled sexual misconduct complaints. The report offers a scathing view of the resources and attention LSU has dedicated to complaints of sexual misconduct and violence against women campus-wide. Schneider found that LSU leadership ā€œresponded in a lackluster fashionā€ when officials who handled Title IX compliance requested more resources. Victims are ā€œunderstandably reluctant to participate in the Title IX process because they fear community backlash,ā€ Schneider said.

(AP Photo/Richard Shiro, File)This college football season is already so odd that it’s unclear whether this is Week 1 or Week 2. 1 Clemson and Trevor Lawrence begin their season at Wake Forest, a solid opportunity for the star quarterback and preseason Heisman front-runner to launch a campaign. The Sooners' new starter is the first non-transfer to begin the season as QB1 since before Trevor Knight in 2014. One coach who could really use a win to start this season, though, is Les Miles of Kansas.

The Sooners are still considered the overwhelming favorite to win their sixth consecutive Big 12 crown overall because nobody has dethroned them with Riley there. Purdy last year set school records with 3,982 yards and 27 TDs passing, leading the Big 12 with 306.3 yards per game. Conference play begins Sept. 26, the start of an 11-week stretch for nine league games before the Big 12 title game Dec. 12 or Dec. 19, if an extra week is needed. Since this is only TCU's ninth season in the league, Patterson technically isn't the longest-tenured Big 12 coach. Former Oklahoma State quarterback Mike Gundy is in his 16th season as head coach for his alma mater.
