NEW YORK – Broadway and the world of drag will combine later this month for a streaming variety show to promote voter participation that promises plenty of show tunes and a lot of fierce lipstick. ā€œDivas For Democracy: United We Slayā€ will feature Broadway stars such as Chita Rivera and Stephanie J. Block singing theater songs while their drag counterparts from ā€œRuPaul’s Drag Raceā€ ā€œmatch their vocal prowess with lip sync passion and style,ā€ according to organizers. There's a minimum $5 donation and all proceeds benefit Drag Out the Vote, a national, nonpartisan voter engagement nonprofit. The divas of drag include stars of ā€œRuPaul’s Drag Raceā€ such as Alaska, Jinkx Monsoon, Jujubee, Valentina, Peppermint, Cynthia Lee Fontaine, Shuga Cain, Honey Davenport, Brita Filter, Marti Gould Cummings and Pixie Aventura.

LOS ANGELES – Every Emmy Award handed out Sunday will come with something extra — a $100,000 donation to fight child hunger. The Television Academy announced Friday that each network and streaming service competing on the telecast has pledged the donation for every Emmy they win. With 23 Emmys being handed out and the academy committing $500,000, that will mean a donation of $2.8 million to No Kid Hungry, a group working to relieve child hunger brought on by the coronavirus crisis. The 72nd Emmy Awards air Sunday at 5 p.m. on ABC. Guests set to appear include Anthony Anderson, Mindy Kaling, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Patrick Stuart, RuPaul and Oprah Winfrey.

Westfield says it has been using its parking lots to draw crowds for years, with circuses, ice skating rinks and car shows. Kilburn Live, another production company, has turned five mall parking lots into drive-ins and is adding others. Walmart, noticing the trend, added drive-in movies to 160 of its parking lots where people can order snacks ahead of time from the store. And it’s also considering renting out parts of its parking lots to companies that want to hold drive-in meetings with their employees.
