The U.S. Defense Department has added major Chinese technology companies including gaming and technology company Tencent, artificial intelligence firm SenseTime and the world’s biggest battery maker CATL to its list of companies it says have ties to China’s military.

Microsoft is in talks to buy parts of TikTok, in a potential sale that's being forced under Trump's threat of a ban. Tencents WeChat is a critical communications and payments service in China and with Chinese emigrants abroad, with 1.2 billion users globally. Q: Why is the Trump administration cracking down on TikTok and WeChat? Trump had long taken aim at TikTok but the move against WeChat was an escalation. There are also concerns about TikTok censoring videos critical of China, which TikTok denies, and pushing propaganda.

Gamers in China aged under 18 will be banned from playing online games between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m.BEIJING - China has announced a curfew on online gaming for minors among new measures aimed at curbing video game addiction. The official government guidelines will be applied to all online gaming platforms operating in the country, mostly notably Tencent, the world's biggest gaming company. The guidelines also place restrictions on the amount of money minors can transfer to their online gaming accounts. China is the world's largest gaming market, accounting for a quarter of global revenue, according to market research firm Newzoo. In August 2018, Beijing announced plans to limit the number of new online games to "reduce nearsightedness in children and adolescents."

"Call of Duty: Mobile" is a free-to-download game that is available for iOS and Android devices. "Call of Duty: Mobile" isn't the first mobile game from the franchise, but it "brings together experiences from both the Modern Warfare and Black Ops series of games" for the first time, according to Activision. "Call of Duty: Mobile" was developed by Chinese tech giant Tencent in conjunction with Timi Studio, which made the popular game "Arena of Valor." In the company's most recent earnings quarter, Acitivision recorded recorded $1.4 billion in sales compared to $1.6 billion a year ago.

HONG KONG - Hong Kong stocks are having their best day in more than two weeks. The Hang Seng Index is up 1.4% in early trading, inching above 1% for the first time since August 19. Index heavyweight Tencent climbed 2.1% after the Chinese internet giant announced it spent 36.4 million Hong Kong dollars ($4.6 million) buying back shares Tuesday. Last month, the Hang Seng recorded a 7.4% drop one of the worst among major global indexes. The company's main business, online marketing, has been hurt by increased regulation of online content in China, as well as the country's broader economic slowdown. HONG KONG - Asian stocks rallied Wednesday after the United States decided to postpone some tariffs on Chinese goods, fueling hopes for a trade deal between the two countries. The yuan gained 0.3% from Tuesday's levels, trading at around 7.04 per US dollar in mainland China. Airports near Hong Kong are expected to benefit from the disruption in the city, CITIC Securities analysts wrote in a research report. Shenzhen Airport jumped 2.4%, following a 10% gain Tuesday. Cathay Pacific Group rebounded more than 3.6% in early trading in Hong Kong.

China's consumer price index rose 2.8% in July, which was slightly better than market expectations. The country's producer price index dropped 0.3%, according to government data released Friday. French conglomerate Vivendi confirmed Tuesday that it's in talks to sell 10% of Universal Music Group to the gaming and social media company. Vivendi said in a statement that Universal Music Group would be valued at 30 billion ($33.6 billion) under the deal. Arnaud de Puyfontaine, the chief executive of Vivendi, said previously that proceeds from the Universal Music Group sale would be used to buy back shares and acquire companies. In March, Tencent said a sharp fall in its profits was mainly due to costs related to the US listing of its streaming music subsidiary, Tencent Music, in December.

Tencent said in December that its subsidiary Tencent Pictures is "an investor and co-marketer" of the highly anticipated sequel. Paramount Pictures, which is owned by Viacom, and Tencent Pictures did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The campaign has been largely successful, with major airlines and companies like United Airlines, Delta Airlines, Marriott, American Express, and Goldman Sachs falling in line. Tencent Pictures has also been affiliated with other popular Paramount films, including "Wonder Woman," "Terminator: Dark Fate," and "Warcraft, Kong: Skull Island," according to the company.

So-called eSports have enjoyed a huge growth curve in recent years, with revenues in the billions of dollars. A popular video streaming platform is gearing up for what could be the year's biggest Wall Street debut by a Chinese company. DouYu, a live-streaming platform for gamers backed by Chinese tech giant Tencent, will go public on the Nasdaq on Wednesday at $11.50 per share. That would break the record set in May, when Starbucks rival Luckin Coffee went public, raising about $645 million, according to Refinitiv. Its Wall Street debut comes a week after Budweiser owner Anheuser-Busch InBev canceled a listing of its Asia unit on the Hong Kong stock exchange, which would have eclipsed Uber as the biggest IPO of this year.
