Walk away: Indians rally again, keep AL Central hopes alive

Read full article: Walk away: Indians rally again, keep AL Central hopes alive

“We want to win the division.”Down 3-1 and held to one hit for eight innings, the Indians found more of the late-inning magic that has carried them this week. Delino DeShields — who broke up Pittsburgh's no-hit bid with a perfectly placed bunt single in the seventh — hit a one-out RBI single. Adam Plutko (2-2) picked up his first career win in relief for the Indians (34-25), who have clinched a playoff spot but want more. It's quite a turnaround for the Indians, who recently dropped eight straight from Sept. 8-16 and have been plagued with offensive inconsistency all season. Gregory Polanco hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning off Carrasco, but the Pirates couldn't hold on and dropped to 2-16 against AL Central teams.

Olivares staked Singer to a 4-0 lead in the sixth with his third homer, a shot into the empty bleachers in left field. Read full article: Royals rookie Singer holds Indians without hit for 6 innings

CLEVELAND – Kansas City Royals rookie Brady Singer has not allowed the Cleveland Indians a hit through six innings on Thursday night. Singer, who gave up 10 singles in his previous outing against the Chicago White Sox on Sept. 4, has had little trouble with a Cleveland lineup that has struggled all season. The right-hander walked Mike Freeman with one out in the second, but has otherwise had the Indians over-swinging or guessing. The closest Cleveland has come to a hit was when Tyler Naquin flied out to the warning track in right in the fifth and César Hernández lined out for the final out in the sixth. The Royals haven't had a no-hitter pitched for them since Bret Saberhagen in 1991 and have only four in team history.
