These products, recalled by Rastelli Foods Group, have use or freeze by dates of 10/24/19, 10/31/19, 11/04/19, 11/07/19, and 11/11/19. - More than 2 million pounds of poultry products have been recalled in eight states over fears of contamination with foreign matter such as metal, federal health officials said. Arkansas-based Simmons Prepared Foods, Inc. recalled the items produced from October 21 through November 4 this year. They are 2,071,397 pounds of poultry products, including ready to cook chicken whole legs, boneless skinless chicken, halal chicken leg quarters and chicken tenderloins, the US Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service said Wednesday. The products subject to recall have an establishment number "P-1949," "P- 486" or "P-5837" inside the USDA mark of inspection, and were shipped to Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Georgia, Minnesota, Oklahoma and Pennsylvania. Those who've purchased the products are urged to throw them away or return them to the store.

George's Prepared Foods, the company that produces Walmart's Great Value frozen, fully cooked meat, said that the products were meant to be disposed of after a small group of them tested positive for salmonella but were accidentally shipped nationwide. M2206T" or "P-2260T" are printed on the recalled products' packaging. There haven't been any illnesses reported yet, but George's and the USDA urge consumers to throw away or return the recalled products. The most common symptoms include diarrhea, fever and cramps, which typically last up to a week, the USDA said.

The government says Home Market Foods Inc. of Massachusetts is recalling 53,217 pounds of Cooked Perfect Brand Homestyle Meatballs. They contain milk and wheat, "known allergens" not on the product label, the government said in a statement Thursday. The 48-ounce bags were produced April 2 and sold in Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina and Rhode Island, the statement said. From Oct. 1 to April 1, an estimated 37.7% of US managed honeybee colonies -- colonies that are not wild -- were lost. "This increased acceptable loss may indicate that beekeepers are more realistic or pragmatic in their expectations of colony losses," the survey said. Surviving winter is indicator of bee colony healthBecause surviving the winter months is an indicator of the health of the bee colony, an increase in winter loss means bee colonies could be weakening overall. The news comes after a US Department of Agriculture announcement that it will no longer collect data on bee colonies.

ATLANTA (CNN) - A pair of beagles discovered two giant African snails in the luggage of a passenger arriving at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International airport, according to US Customs and Border Protection. Canine comrades Candie and Chipper, members of CBP's "Beagle Brigade," alerted customs officials Sunday to a checked bag from Nigeria at the international baggage claim. Inside were two giant African snails -- a particularly invasive species -- and prohibited fruits and vegetables, according to a news release from the CBP. When giant African snails were first found in southern Florida in the 1960s, it took a decade and $1 million to eradicate them, the USDA said. Eradication efforts are ongoing after the snails were reintroduced in 2011.
