Wildlife expert Ron Magill receives University of Florida alumnus award

University of Florida alumnus Ron Magill was recognized with the Distinguished Alumnus Award at the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences Student Recognition Ceremony on May 1. Magill has spent most of his career changing the face of wildlife conservation. His dedication to the native wildlife of Panama later earned him the key to Panama City on two separate occasions. As a producer, co-producer or photographer for these documentaries, Magill has been able to show the world the importance of wildlife conservation in a multitude of ecosystems on our planet. He created the Ron Magill Conservation Scholarship, a $5,000 annual scholarship given to a wildlife ecology and conservation graduate student studying wildlife species in Central or South America.

Emerald Scholars Program Graduates First Class

For the first time ever, Westminster’s Class of 2021 included 14 students who graduated as Emerald Scholars. Emerald Scholars participate in Westminster’s most ambitious academic courses and are provided with opportunities for enrichment through internships, independent research, service projects, and more. To graduate as an Emerald Scholar, students take a minimum of 12 AP courses, complete the AP Capstone Program or PLTW Engineering Program, as well as meet GPA, service project and internship requirements. Besides graduation honors, students receive a custom emerald and gold charm or pin along with a keepsake box. “The Emerald Scholars program underscores the goal of a Westminster education by preparing Christian leaders who are able to think critically, collaborate effectively, seek innovative solutions, and be examples of excellence in their communities,” said Alex Gonzalez, Westminster’s High School Principal.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Hundreds of students attending the University of Florida are taking part in a landmark study investigating the spread of COVID-19. One thousand students will be vaccinated as part of a nationwide study involving more than 20,000 college students and 25,000 of their close contacts. Researchers said the results of the study could determine how long we need to continue preventive measures such as wearing masks and social distancing. AdThe study also showed that non-standard forms of employment, including working from home, aggravated the ability to control the time spent on work. Researchers said businesses with returning cardiac patients need to adopt programs to boost job retention and help with disease management.
