5 shot, hurt in Washington state Walmart amid altercation
A customer and an employee of a Walmart were shot and injured along with three young men who authorities said were involved in an altercation inside the store Sunday, police said. Investigators believe the shooting happened after a group of men entered the store and got into an altercation with another group of men who were already in the store, police said. Injured in the shooting were a 72-year-old customer, a 24-year-old employee and the three 19-year-old men allegedly involved in the altercation, police said.

The Health and Human Services Department on Wednesday warned U.S. retail pharmacies that they risk violating civil rights law if they deny access to medication used in abortions under certain circumstances. The HHS Office for Civil Rights said pharmacies cannot deny access to prescription medication used for reproductive health-care on the basis of the customer's sex, pregnancy status and other protected groups under federal civil rights law. The medication can also be used to terminate an unwanted pregnancy, according to HHS guidance issued to the nation's 60,000 retail pharmacies. HHS also said pharmacies risk violating civil rights law if they refuse to fill a prescription for methotrexate to halt ectopic pregnancies. Federal civil rights law prohibits discrimination on the basis of current, past or intended pregnancy as well as medical conditions related to pregnancy, according to HHS.

Consumer confidence up slightly in July
U.S. consumer confidence was relatively unchanged from June to July, but remains at its highest level since February 2020, just before the coronavirus pandemic hit the U.S. The Conference Board reported Tuesday that its consumer confidence index inched up in July to 129.1, up from last month’s reading of 128.9.
