POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – A woman went into cardiac arrest Monday before she crashed her vehicle into a canal in Pompano Beach, authorities said.

The crash was reported early Monday afternoon in the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 south of Copans Road.

Pompano Beach Fire Rescue spokeswoman Sandra King said a car seat was found in the back seat, so divers searched the canal to make sure that a child was not inside the vehicle at the time.

No one was found in the water.

Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Mark Wysocky said the woman was taken to Broward Health North, where she was pronounced dead.

Her identity was not immediately released.
