Lightning burns crane operator

LAUDERHILL, Fla. – Lightning struck a crane in Lauderhill on Tuesday afternoon, burning the operator.

The lightning strike happened at 3601 NW 4th Street about 1:22 p.m., said Lauderhill Fire Rescue officials, while crews installed a wooden power pole.

The 22-year-old crane operator was transported to Broward General Medical Center. The extent of his injuries weren't immediately released.

Moises Rentiera, a roofer working nearby, said the operator was walking around after lightning struck the crane.

"We just heard the loud bang," he said. "He (crane operator) looked shocked. He didn't know what to do. He kept looking around."
