Florida man stuck in Bahamas worried about home

Port St. Lucie resident says house unprotected as Hurricane Matthew approaches

NASSAU, Bahamas – A Port St. Lucie, Florida, man forced to wait out Hurricane Matthew in the Bahamas told Local 10 News that he's worried about his home.

"We actually knew it was going to hit, but we were good with it because we knew that, you know, these places, you know, have gotten hit in the past," the man said of the Nassau resort where he is vacationing.

However, when he found out it was poised to impact Florida's Atlantic coast, his concern was for his home.

"I live smack dab in the middle of where it's going to hit land … and I don't have my house protected," he said.

The man said he tried to change his flight, but it was canceled, so he called his father to ask him to put up his hurricane shutters.

Local 10 News reporter Amy Viteri said security personnel woke up guests early Thursday at the Nassau hotel where she is staying and forced them to leave their rooms. They were ushered into a ballroom on the fourth floor.
