Lightning strikes AA flight after take off at MIA

Severe weather frightens American Airlines Fligh 134 passengers

MIAMI-DADE, Fla. ā€“ After departing from Miami International Airport Friday night, lightning struck an American Airlines plane during a flight to Seattle Tacoma International Airport.

According to Flight Aware's activity log, the Boeing 737-800 departed from MIA at 8:24 p.m. Federal Aviation Administration spokesperson Kathleen Bergen said the AA Flight 134 landed safely back at MIA at 9:35 p.m.

MIA spokesman Marc Henderson said none of the passengers were injured during the frightening experience. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue was prepared for a hazardous situation, but Henderson said they were only there as a precaution.Ā 

American Airlines later released a statement saying the passengers were set to be on their way to Seattle Tacoma International Airport in another aircraft. The FAA grounded several other flights at MIA due to severe weather reports.
