Shutters, bolts become harder to find as Hurricane Irma nears

Shoppers search for parts to protect their property

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – Hurricane shutters have been ignored by some South Floridians over the past few years – because we've been lucky.

But as Hurricane Irma approaches,  shutters are a hot item again and with demand being up, they’re harder to find.

"This is my fourth place and I keep going from place to place," a shopper said about his quest to find hurricane clips. "My office has been a little lax, but the storm is so big we’re afraid we’re going to get some big winds from this."

He found success at Crown Screen & Awning at 5935 Johnson Street, which specializes in hard-to-find parts.

An employee at the store said there is plenty of supply now, and more items are expected to come in Wednesday.

For now residents should continue to prepare for Irma, and get as much done early as possible.
