MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. ā€“ Miami-Dade Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces continues to open up facilities this week for residents following Hurricane Irma.

Employees said they are continuing to work to open all venues for families to enjoy each other's company and relieve stress following the storm.

With Miami-Dade County public schools closed until Monday and thousands still without power, some children decided to escape the heat by taking a cool dip Thursday afternoon.

"Life is basically shut down," Daniel Rodriguez said.

"It's pretty boring without internet, because you can't socialize as people usually would," another teenager, Junior Villeta, said.

Miami-Dade Parks and Recreation is offering free open swim at several of its pools, hoping it offers people some sense of normalcy until everything is back up and running.

"With a lot of people having power out and no lights, or water or anything, and it's extremely hot out, we've been working really hard -- the parks and aquatics department -- to get the facilities working, so all of these patrons can come and enjoy the facility for free," said Ana Fernandez, with Miami-Dade Park and Recreation.Ā
