Another Heat Advisory issued for South Florida as Earth matches record high

Another Heat Advisory was issued Thursday for South Florida as it was confirmed that Earth’s average temperature Wednesday matched its record high set a day earlier.

Thursday’s advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. through 7 p.m. for all of Broward, Palm Beach, Miami-Dade, Hendry, Collier, Glades and Mainland Monroe counties.

High temperatures are forecast to peak in the low to mid 90s.

According to forecasters, heat index values will be reaching 105-110 degrees, but those maximum apparent temperatures might not last as long Thursday due to widespread showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening.

According to the NWS, the high temperatures and high humidity may cause heat-related illnesses to occur.

People are advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room and stay out of the sun, if possible.

“Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances,” the NWS states on its website. “Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.”

Anyone overcome by the heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. If you believe someone is experiencing a heat stroke, call 911.
