PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – Residents and visitors across South Florida are enjoying a mild start to the new year as cooler temperatures and drier conditions settle in, thanks to a northerly breeze and a dry cold front moving through the region.

As of Wednesday morning, temperatures hovered around 69 degrees in Fort Lauderdale, with similar readings in Pembroke Pines and Miami, and a slightly warmer 72 degrees in Key West, according to Local 10 meteorologist Julie Durda.

Durda said winds from the northwest, clocking in at 3 to 10 mph, have helped keep haze and dense fog largely at bay, however, visibility challenges persist on Florida’s west coast and parts of the Lower Keys, where visibility is reduced to six to eight miles near Key West.

She also stated the dry cold front, expected to pass through the region on Wednesday, will bring some cloud cover but little to no precipitation. Behind the front, South Floridians can expect even cooler air, marking a noticeable change from recent weather.

On Sunday, Miami tied a record high of 84 degrees, but Monday’s high is forecasted to reach only 78 degrees.

As the sun sets, a brisk north breeze will push temperatures into the 50s overnight, offering a taste of winter for the region.

While cooler weather may not be typical for South Florida, Local 10 meteorologists are encouraging residents to enjoy the refreshing start to the year as drier, more comfortable conditions persist in the days ahead.
