North Miami Beach teen puts up Christmas display for good cause

Nicholas Caine's hard work benefits Make-A-Wish Foundation

NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A teenager in North Miami Beach had a bright idea for the holidays.

He put up a huge Christmas display for his neighborhood, and it's all for a good cause. His hard work is benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

"I love Christmas," Nicholas Caine said. "Honestly, my name is Nick. Saint Nick. It kind of worked out perfectly."

The display is called Nick's Starlight Spectacular, and it started five years ago as a community service requirement for high school. It has snowballed into a block-long holiday carnival.

"I have raised almost $60,000 for Make-A-Wish over the years," Caine said. "It is a lot of work, but at the end of the day, somebody has to do it."

Caine and his elves decorate 18 houses on his street.

"We pretty much do use everyone's power," Caine said. "We do give everyone a $50 check at the end of the year."

He did have a holdout at the end of the street, but Thursday night the resident agreed to light up his property.

"I start putting up lights Oct. 1, and it runs -- actually last night at 4 o'clock in the morning, I was hanging the last lights and doing the finishing touches to make sure everything is perfect for this weekend," Caine said.

"Do you have any idea how many lights you have got?" reporter Todd Tongen asked.

"Way too many," Caine said.
