Great American Beach Party kicks off Saturday on Fort Lauderdale Beach
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Great American Beach Party is expected to bring thousands of people to Fort Lauderdale Beach this weekend to enjoy music, vintage cars, unique art, exciting activities, interactive entertainment and a free concert by legendary rocker Eddie Money.
The event is being held from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday in the area of A1A and Las Olas Boulevard.
Authorities said A1A will be shut down throughout the area for the event.
The event is designed to be family-friendly and Fort Lauderdale's mayor said police intend to keep the peace and fun.
"This is a family-friendly event, so we don't want people down there that are just acting like fools, that are getting drunk, that are interfering with the others that want to enjoy the event," Mayor Jack Seiler said. "I kind of have a rule in Fort Lauderdale that our parks, our beaches -- they are for the enjoyment of everyone, and so we don't want one group to interfere with another group's enjoyment of that."
Seiler said public intoxication and unruly behavior will not be tolerated by authorities.
