As part of its annual philanthropic initiative, Year of the Child, which is dedicated to helping improve the lives of children in the Florida foster care system, Florida Community Bank will hold a month-long backpack drive in support of National Foster Care Month. All FCB's 50 banking centers statewide will serve as collection points for new backpacks. At the end of the month, backpacks will be donated to local organizations that support children in foster care.

This live cooking demo will feature local produce from the Northwest Gardens Community plus local vendors, music and entertainment.

The Inaugural Deltas on the Run 5K will promote physical and mental health while raising awareness of lupus and preterm births. Hosted by the South Broward Alumnae Chapter (SBAC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., proceeds from the event will fund programs with the Lupus Foundation of America Florida Chapter, Inc., March of Dimes; and support SBAC's community projects and annual awarded scholarships assisting high school seniors attending college.

Walk the Talk for Epilepsy events, held across the state of Florida each spring, benefit the more than 400,000 Floridians living with epilepsy. Epilepsy, a common neurological condition that one in 26 people will be diagnosed with at some point in their lives, is a disorder more people live with than autism, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and cerebral palsy – combined. This event will feature family-friendly entertainment, including a Zumba warm up, DJ, a photo booth sponsored by Cleveland Clinic, a special appearance by the Florida Panthers’ official mascot Stanley C. Panther, raffle prizes, and more. Prizes for the top fundraising teams and individuals will be awarded.

The Don Strock Diabetes Golf Classic has raised more than $3 million for the Diabetes Research Institute (DRI) and its mission to find a biological cure for diabetes. After completing the picturesque and challenging course, players enjoy a cocktail hour and awards dinner including an exciting live and silent auction to benefit the DRI.

The Chef’s Palette, the student-run restaurant at the non-profit Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, is joining the fight to end childhood hunger. The restaurant will feature a special, four-course meal menu the week of May 14 – 18 to benefit No Kid Hungry, a nonprofit working to solve problems of hunger and poverty in the United States and around the world. The menu includes caramelized onion duck rillette, Spring beet salad, braised duck with mixed vegetables and creamy mashed potatoes, and for dessert, a berry swirl cheesecake with chocolate cookie crust.
Cost: $15.95 for the four-course meal. For every meal purchased during that time, The Art Institute will make a $10 donation to No Kid Hungry
