Chick-fil-A opens Sunday to feed stranded passengers at Atlanta airport

Atlanta-based chain breaks from tradition to assist after massive power outage

ATLANTA – Chick-fil-A isn't open on Sundays. But it was last Sunday at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

The Atlanta-based fast-food restaurant chain broke from its long-standing policy and served food to stranded passengers after the airport lost power Sunday afternoon, causing more than 1,000 flights to be grounded.

According to Business Insider, Atlanta's mayor asked for assistance, and Chick-fil-A was happy to oblige.

Chick-fil-A is not open on Sundays because of the founder's religious beliefs, but employees mobilized to make sandwiches for hungry flyers caught in limbo.

"It has been a very difficult day for thousands of travelers," Chick-fil-A spokeswoman Amanda Hannah told Business Insider. "And while Chick-fil-A is always closed on Sunday, our restaurants open occasionally to serve communities in need."
