Florida school faces controversy after offering "front of line" lunch passes for $100

LAKELAND, Fla. – A Florida public school is dealing with controversy after it offered up a "skip the lunch line" pass to students for $100.

The PTSA of Lawton Chiles Middle Academy in Lakeland sent the letter hoping to raise funds for the school through the sale of passes.

Students at the school whose parents had donated $100 to the organization would be allowed to skip the lunch line and head to the front.

Parents were angered over a perceived act of elitism at the school.

The PTSA later apologized and claimed the letter was sent to parents due to a "clerical error" and the program was "explored," but was never intended to be implemented.

“This is not something that we support here,” Principal Brian Andrews told The Ledger. “Nobody’s a second-class citizen here.”
