MIAMI – The dig portion of the Port Tunnel connecting Dodge Island to Watson Island is more than 90 percent complete and Local 10 has learned "Harriet" is set to make her big breakthrough next week.
Builders of Miami's Port Tunnel project expect the giant boring machine to emerge on the Watson Island side of the "big dig," completing a year-and-half's worth of boring the two parallel tunnels, 120 feet under Government Cut, that will funnel traffic to and from Port Miami. The breakout is expected to happen at 8 a.m. Monday.
