"The next thing I know I heard a whole bunch of shots," said resident Early Stitt.
Police said it started early Monday evening when RID detectives attempted to pull over the driver of a Nissan Maxima who was wanted for an armed robbery. The alleged robber sped away, according to police.
A witness in the area who identified himself only as Larry said he saw detectives pursue the Maxima.
"When I looked out the Window there was a gray Crown Vic chasing the white Maxima," said Larry. "Apparently at the corner the guy - I don't know if he lost control or whatever - but he jumped out. And then I heard the gunshots."
Police said after the driver of the Maxima bailed out of the car, there was a confrontation and RID detectives opened fire.
The suspect was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.
A weapon was recovered from his car, police said. It was not immediately known if the suspect opened fire on the officers. No officers were injured.
The investigation continues.
