MIAMI – Police are looking for a gunman who opened fire upon a home, hitting a 70-year-old woman and her 26-year-old granddaughter.
The shooting happened in the 1200 block of Northwest 64th Street about 11:27 a.m. Friday, leaving the apartment riddled with bullet holes.
"They were sitting in the living room and there was kids all in the living room, my mom was there as well," said one of the elder woman's granddaughters, Tydrika Simmons. "They was just having a regular day."
The elder woman, Alamarine Viel, was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital. She returned home by mid-afternoon.
"I got shot here and on the side of my head," said Viel, pointing to her shoulder.
"She's extremely sick, she done had all kind of surgeries and she's a survivor, she's been through a lot of things," said Simmons.
A family member drove the younger woman, Latrell Viel, to the Ryder Trauma Center, where she was listed in stable condition. She was later released from the hospital.
"The 70-year-old victim was not the target," said Miami police spokeswoman Frederica Burden.
Simmons blamed the shooting on a love triangle. Neighbors said the gunman arrived in a silver car and fired indiscriminately into the apartment.
