Wife of theater shooting victim speaks out

Attorneys warn gunman is a risk to the community, ask for denial of bond

TAMPA – The widow of the man shot to death in a Tampa movie theater last week publicly spoke about the incident for the first time Wednesday morning.

"To think that in the blink of an eye my whole world just got shattered into a million pieces," said Nicole Oulson.

Oulson held a news conference at her attorney's office in Downtown Tampa where she thanked the community for their support.

On Jan. 13 Oulson and her husband were in a movie theater when Curtis Reeves, 71, allegedly gunned down her husband, Chad Oulson, after an argument about texting.

"My husband and I didn't get a date night very often, much less a whole day to spend together," Nicole recalled. "So I was just so excited and looking forward to spending the day with the love of my life at a place of entertainment."

Reeves, a retired police officer, is now being charged with the second-degree murder and is being held without bond.

Nicole Oulson's attorneys spoke on her behalf stating their concerns for the public's safety if Revees is granted bond.

"Everyone with a cell phone is at risk," said attorney T.J. Grimaldi. "I mean, you never know when this guy is going to go off again, and everyone has a cell phone, so I think that should be the judge's main concern here."

Oulson was shot in the hand during the incident, but is said to be recovering well after surgery.

The woman says her 22-month-old daughter, Alexis, is her main focus.
