Man sentenced in Doral drag racing deaths

Alberto de Jesus Coteron sentenced to 45 years in prison

DORAL, Fla. ā€“ A 22-year-old man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for each of the three deaths of his friends that resulted after he crashed his car drag racing in Doral.

Alberto de Jesus Coteron apologized to the family members of his friends in court Monday.

The crash happened in August of 2011. Police say Coteron lost control of his Honda, and crashed into a concrete pole. He was the only survivor of the crash.

Coteron walked away that night and showed up with his family to turn himself in to police two days later.

Coteron was also sentenced to 15 years probation and 500 community service hours at the Medical Examiner's Office. He will never be allowed to get a driver's license again, will be subjected to random drug testing, and must receive mental health treatment while in prison. He was also ordered to pay restitution to the families of the victims.
