Nearly 3K get holiday meal vouchers in Miami's Little Havana

Latin Chamber of Commerce spreads holiday cheer

MIAMI – Hundreds of people waited to get food vouchers in Miami's Little Havana tradition Wednesday.

Some camped out overnight. Others took turns waiting in line since Saturday in front of the Latin Chamber of Commerce, 1417 W. Flagler St.

"Everybody needs help," Hattie Coleman said. "Some people just don't have it."

As they have done for years,  the Latin Chamber of Commerce held a food giveaway. This year they distributed about 3,000 vouchers that were equivalent to $120 in groceries each. Recipients only needed to provide valid identification.

"There is no food in the fridge, so it would mean a lot," Julio Mendez said adding that he had been waiting for five days.

To get the food, they will have to wait in line again with their vouchers.
