Body found near southwest Miami-Dade County home where missing man had been staying

Nephew of missing man arrested on murder charge

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A man is in police custody after a body was found Monday near a southwest Miami-Dade County home where a missing man had been staying with a relative.

Miami-Dade police said Carlos Nino, 54, was staying at the home with his 32-year-old nephew, Carlos Zuluaga, while the rest of their family was on vacation.

When the family members returned home Sunday, Nino, their dogs and a cat were missing.

Detective Daniel Ferrin said the family pets were later found dead in the backyard, but he didn't say how they were killed.

Police also later discovered a body near the residence.

Detective Alvaro Zabaleta said Zuluaga confessed to killing Nino and disposing of his body.

Although the body found wrapped in a rug is believed to be Nino, police are still waiting on a positive identification from the medical examiner's office.

A man who asked not to be identified told Local 10 News he noticed someone dumping what looked like trash in the area late Sunday night.

"It concerns me quite a bit," the man said.

Zuluaga faces charges of second-degree murder and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
