Coral Springs police Facebook page helps reunite dog with owners

Thornsby, 7, missing for 5 days

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – A dog was reunited with its owners this week after a Coral Springs resident recognized the dog from a police post on Facebook.

Officers said Sam and Ellen Stern were visiting their daughter's home in Coral Springs when their 7-year-old treeing walker coon hound, Thornsby, jumped over her fence.

The family reported the rescue dog missing to police, whose humane unit began searching for the hound.

Police said there were several sightings of Thornsby, but the skittish dog always ran off before authorities arrived.

Luckily, a Coral Springs resident recognized Thornsby from a post on the police department's Facebook page and contacted authorities to pick him up.

Thornsby was captured and reunited with his grateful family.

His owners told police that Thornsby, whom they refer to as their "beagle on stilts," is a calm and gentle dog but is easily frightened by strangers.
