Inmate escapes while working outside Plantation Key jail

Sean Stacey disappears during work detail; Jail jumpsuit found nearby

KEY WEST, Fla. – An inmate at a Florida Keys jail escaped from custody Friday while on work detail.

Monroe County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Becky Herrin said Sean Stacey, 37, was working outside the Plantation Key jail as a maintenance trustee for Monroe County Public Works when he disappeared.

Herrin said he was last seen near High Point Road about 4 p.m. His orange jail jumpsuit was found nearby.

Stacey has been in jail since September on charges of burglary, grand theft and criminal mischief.

Herrin said Stacey is from the Florida City area. Anyone who sees Stacey or has information on his whereabouts is asked to call the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.
